Congratulations to Associate Cailey Duffy on Her Recent Trial Victory!

        On Thursday, June 10, 2025, Associate Cailey Duffy secured a trial victory in a damages-only proceeding before the District Court for Baltimore County in Towson. The Plaintiff filed suit seeking substantial compensation following a minor vehicle collision, in which a school bus—operated by an employee of the Defendant—rolled slightly backward into the Plaintiff’s parked car.

        As liability was not in dispute, Cailey focused her efforts on contesting the extent of Plaintiff’s damages. During discovery Cailey conducted a meticulous review of Plaintiff’s medical records, successfully identifying multiple prior injuries of a similar nature and the absence of emergency treatment immediately following the incident. These points were emphasized at trial to undercut Plaintiff’s theory of causation and the severity of Plaintiff's claimed injuries.

        On cross-examination, Cailey effectively used Plaintiff’s testimony to impeach her credibility using photographs of the collision, which demonstrated a lack of property damage, to cast doubt on Plaintiff’s testimony regarding the force of the impact and nature of her injuries. At the close of trial, the Plaintiff was awarded $0 in damages.

        This win highlights how a strategic, evidence-driven approach that combines careful analysis of medical records with persuasive impeachment and visual presentation can lead to a successful outcome for the defense, even when liability is admitted.
