Congratulations to RSRM Associate Attorney Regan Leavitt on Her Trial Victory!

On Thursday February 19, 2026, Associate Regan Leavitt appeared before the District Court of Maryland for Baltimore City for a specially set matter concerning a motor vehicle collision involving two (2) vehicles that occurred in 2022 on Washington Boulevard in Baltimore City, Maryland. There were two (2) plaintiffs: Plaintiff Daughter, who was driving/operating the motor vehicle, and Plaintiff Mother, who was a passenger in the subject motor vehicle.  Mrs. Leavitt represented the driver of the second vehicle. The Plaintiffs, through separate counsel, both alleged that the Defendant was solely at fault for the Incident, maintaining that while the Plaintiffs were following the Defendant’s vehicle on Washington Boulevard, a two-lane road with one lane in each direction, the Defendant improperly initiated his hazard lights and came to a complete stop along the curb on the right-hand side of the lane. Moreover, Plaintiffs alleged that while the Defendant was completely parked along the right-side, the Plaintiffs attempted to lawfully pass him on his left when suddenly, and without warning, the Defendant maneuvered his vehicle back into traffic, seemingly making a U-turn, striking the Plaintiffs’ vehicle and causing the subject collision. The Defendant maintained that he never came to a complete stop on the right-hand side of the road, that he was intending to turn left at all times, and that the Plaintiff Driver actually crossed the double-yellow line to improperly pass the Defendant on his left causing the collision.

Mrs. Leavitt filed a cross-claim for indemnification and contribution against Plaintiff driver; accordingly, there were four (4) attorneys involved: three (3) attorneys with aligned interests for Plaintiff Daughter and Mother, and Mrs. Leavitt as the sole attorney representing the interests of the Defendant.

This matter was bifurcated and proceeded on liability only. On cross-examination, Mrs. Leavitt impeached both Plaintiffs’ credibility with multiple inconsistencies between their discovery responses and in-court testimony, as well as citing relevant transportation articles to deconstruct the Plaintiffs’ versions of events.

Ultimately, the Court found that the Plaintiffs’ version of events were not credible and that Plaintiff Daughter, who was operating the plaintiffs’ motor vehicle, was solely at fault for the Incident.  Accordingly, there was no liability found whatsoever on Mrs. Leavitt’s client. This win emphasizes how a well-prepared defense and considerable knowledge of the facts and/or previous discovery responses can effectively counter a claim against two (2) parties with aligned interests and three (3) attorneys between them.

                Congratulations Regan!
