Congratulations to Associate Aaminah Woods on Her Recent Trial Victory!
On Thursday, September 25, 2025, Associate Aaminah Woods secured a trial victory before the District Court for Baltimore County in Catonsville, Maryland. The Plaintiff in this matter filed suit seeking compensation following a motor vehicle accident, which occurred on the outer loop of I-695, near the exit ramp for exits 12C-B. The Plaintiff alleged that Defendant failed to maintain an adequate distance from the Plaintiff’s vehicle, and, thus, as a result, struck the Plaintiff’s vehicle in a violent manner.
Liability was in dispute; therefore, both counsel agreed to have the trial bifurcated. The initial efforts at the start of trial were to contest Plaintiff’s version of events and obtain a ruling in the Defendant’s favor as to liability. During discovery, Aaminah obtained a more detailed version of the Plaintiff’s version of events that appeared extremely convoluted and nonsensical. Although both parties’ version of events aligned with the property damage both vehicles suffered, at trial, Aaminah's goal was to bring into question Plaintiff's version of events while also demonstrating that not only was her client an experience, exceptional driver, but that his version of events were more logical.
By using Plaintiff’s own testimony and discovery responses against him, Aaminah was able to poke holes in the Plaintiff’s story and convince the Court that he was not a credible witness. As this matter proceeded on a word v. word basis, the Court based its ruling upon the credibility of both parties, and, ultimately, found the Defendant’s story to be the more likely version, ruling in his favor. Since the matter was bifurcated, after the Court entered a liability judgment in favor of the Defendant, there was no need to argue or proceed with the damages portion of the trial.
Congratulations, Aaminah!
